#TRAXXAS RUSTLER GEARING CHART PLUS#
The Traxxas gearing chart is a marketing tool to sell the product.Īs such they tell you all about the 100kmh plus speed when using certain pinion / Spur combinations. Top speed is about 70kmh on 3s Lipos and just under 50kmh on 2s. I have a stampede with a MMP / Team Epic Duo2 (Sensored)3570kv motor and run 90/21 gearing. I am almost settled on a 28/83 combo which according to the Traxxas gearing chart is the absolute limit for NiMH batterys and the rustler, im open to change I just wanted to make sure before next month so if anyone has a suggestion :thumb: Stock gearing on the Xl5 is 23T pinion and 90T Spur = 10.63FGR The plan is for the youngest to run 8.4V 7 cell NiMH and the eldest to run a 3s 20C lipo so gearing is going to be key Stock gearing for the Vxl system is as followsħcell 4000+ NiMH battery - 28T pinion with 83T spur = 8.05 Final gear ratioģS 4000 mAh Lipo - 31T pinion with 76T spur = 6.66 FGR The xl5 is brushless ready from new so it already came with the most of the upgraded parts with the exception of ball bearings front and rear (Ordered) Apart from that its gearing im looking at. I purchased a genuine VXL velineon system (Right time, Right price) which arrived last week and will stay in the box untill Xmas but im left wondering if there is anything i've forgotten.

Ok, i think i will go with that gearing or something around that.i will buy a temp gun.don't want to be blowing a expensive system like you said lol.I bought an xl5 for my boys at the start of the year and its time to upgrade it to brushless :thumb: everytime we get out for a bash they seem to spend more time driving either my vorza or our/my hyper. I use that with my 2s, i get around 45 mph, cool temps, good runtime, plenty of torque, etc. ener-g's are the best things to lipo, well then A123, but that's another story. he had ener-g's then got lipo and the lipo wasn't even much faster. the ener-g cells are good, niMh no doubt, but good. you spent $150 on a brushless system, now make it worth it by being smart. I think i will go 28/83 then.but i will also ask the guy at the hobby shop near me says i will test to see how accurate it is before i buy a temp gun.i have seen people using speed radars.ener-g 7cell's have gotten to 45mph.wan't to see 4 my self though.i am only going to be using 7cell not 8 cell.eventually a lipo. I may buy one of those temp guns.only if a thermometer won't work. you just point and hit the button, easy as pie. I just looked on ebay, and a DURATRAX FLASHPOINT temp gun can be yours for $28 including shipping. so, if 28/83 is reccomended for 7cells, then its probly just right for 8cells! You could probly go alittle higher, but if you are going to run off-road alot then its safer to gear low. I would use the same gearing the traxxas speed chart uses for 7cells, that being 28/83. maybe it can go faster on 8cell, but only on street for speed runs. the much faster acceleration gives the feeling of much greater speed.

but, the top speed is only slightly greater. the brushless motor in the vxl's will out-accel most brushed motors on the same amount of volts. Those who say 7cells will do 45-50 a telling "big fish" stories.

youll never be guessing if your new mod is going to fry something. You can buy a small temp gun off ebay for just $30.
